Saw these three ducks at the man-made pond at Greenbelt in Makati. One of the reasons why I like strolling in Greenbelt, Ayala Property did a great job in developing Greenbelt. I remember when I was a kid, there use to be an aviary where you get to see exotic birds after paying for an entrance fee. My father use to take us there and regaled us with all the facts and his personal anecdotes.

If I am not mistaken they replaced the aviary with what is now the Sto. Niño de Paz Chapel. Ayala still managed to keep having nature mix in with their new malls, having man-made ponds where you could see ducks, fishes and turtles together, and trees which attracts the birds and provides shade from the afternoon sun.

The only remaining structure apart from the chapel and Greenbelt 1 that has not been replaced since then is Park Square 1 which I was told that it would be torn down once the new malls replacing Glorietta 1 and 2 and Park Square 2 are done.

Do you like to keep a journal of your thoughts, ideas or activities but can’t find the time in a busy day and usually end up doing it before bedtime or worse end up forgetting some of those thoughts before you had the time to jot it down? I found this application on the App Store – Day One.

Day One is a micro-journal/diary/text logging application for the iPhone or iPad available on the App Store for $1.99 and if you have a Mac there is one available on the Mac Store at $9.99. This review will focus on the iPhone/iPad application.

Pros: Unlimited entries, iCloud or Dropbox sync, Twitter integration, simple user interface.

Cons: No search function, photo attachment, tags and export.

Features

iCloud or Dropbox Sync to Mac, iPhone or iPad apps
This features allows for synching of entries to iPhone or iPad as well as the Mac app. This may also serve the purpose of keeping a backup on the cloud.

Calendar View
Makes it easy for the user to view entries made on specific dates.

Passcode Lock
Keeping the journal safe from prying eyes. User can adjust the amount of time before a passcode is required, from immediately to increments of 1, 3, 5 and 10 minutes.

Reminders
Allows the user to set up an alert to remind that an entry should be made.

Markdown Syntax Support (for rich text)
Supports Markdown syntax for font formatting and URL linking.

Starred Entries List

Entries by Year
Shows the number of entries made per year

Auto Sync and Pull to Sync

Sent as Tweet
Enables the user to post a tweet within the app using iOS 5 system Twitter integration

Conclusion

If you are like me who always had a difficult time keeping a journal/diary due to busy schedule or just plain forgetful, I would recommend using this app. Its simple layout/interface and the unlimited number of entries makes it easy to make an entry of your idea or thought at the very moment it hits you. The iCloud or Dropbox sync is be a plus. What I would like to see in the future is the ability to attach photo or photos on entries, having tags for entries, search would be nice and an export function would be a great addition.

Mom just asked me why I wasn’t watching the impeachment of CJ Corona. Answer: “What for? Nothing but a ploy to make us believe that it will be an impartial practice. Evidence doesn’t matter. All they need is numbers in Senate to impeach. Don’t you think Noynoy thought of that before proceeding? No Senate and CONgress will ever render a just decision if they still want they pork barrel released by DBM.”

Kiko just said that the impeachment proceedings will benefit the Filipino people. What BS! In just a month we have 4 gas and diesel price hike. Don’t you think doing something about that will benefit more Filipinos?

This is my New Years resolution: to post regularly compared to last year. Although 2011 was a year that I started posting more, there is still a lot of room for improvement. The spacing between my blog post are still few and far between, probably owing to the fact that I promise to stick to the positive. There was not a lot of positive things to write about.

This year I will be posting more and on a broader scope not limiting myself to subjects I set last year. Although I would still like to keep it on the positive, in reality the negative side will always be there.

I would just like to share to the world my wonderful experience here at St. Luke’s Medical Center – Bonifacio Global City. Why wonderful? I never experience this kind of service from other major hospitals I’ve been to in the past. What sets this hospital apart in my opinion is that even though I look like a pauper compared to the other patients here, I get the same kind of service as they do.

I think I should start from the shuttle service they provide to patients and patient’s companions. I took a ride from MRT-Ayala Avenue to St. Luke’s in one of their fully air-conditioned and comfortable shuttle services, it was a Hyundai Starex Van. First off, the driver was very courteous and friendly, engagingly conversing with me. The ride was comfortable and relaxing, taking my mind off the tests that I am about to undergo.

Upon arriving at the main lobby, I went to the information and I didn’t even have to be the one to ask because the receptionist beat me to it, greeting me with a “good afternoon sir, how may I help you” which kind of surprised me because in other hospitals I feel like no one wants to attend to me.

On to the Heart Institute. When I arrived there were lots of patients inside waiting for their turn and even though I had just entered the room, I was again given the same greeting I had at the information desk. I already made my appointment a couple of days before and I was an hour early, I waited for my turn and though it came 20 minutes late it was understandable with the number of patients waiting that day being a Monday. When I was called for my 2D-echo Doppler exam, the nurse was very accommodating and friendly even laughing at my jokes which made me comfortable. Same thing when it was my turn to have treadmill stress test, the two nurses were very friendly and was explaining to me the what the test is and how it goes. I was kind of nervous about not being able to complete the test, not being in shape for two years now, but somehow how I was being attended to helped a lot.

Next stop was x-ray and CT scan. Service was fast and efficient, actually I was surprised that it was done in such short period of time and like the other departments, the nurses was very helpful and friendly. I still have pathology tests to undergo but I needed 12 hours of no food and drinks so I scheduled it on the following day. Shuttle service was still there available for patients and I took it to take me back to Ayala.

Next day I submitted specimens and had blood extraction for the other tests and as usual the nurse who was very professional but still friendly. The guy was efficient just one prick of the needle and there goes my blood samples in test tubes. Talk about fast.

Now I am waiting for my tests results and also my doctor’s appointment, I am passing time listening to beautiful piano music while writing this piece.

So if ever you needed to have medical tests and procedures done and you have the budget for it, I would recommend going to St. Luke’s Medical Center – Bonifacio Global City. Apart from their high tech equipments and top-notch doctors, their staff and nurses are class acts.

As the world says goodbye to one of the tech pillars, I like to share this from his 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech:

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.

You have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.

Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful, that’s what matters to me.

Inspirational thoughts wouldn’t you say.

Been going to Baclaran Church for some time now and I haven’t seen it flooded in front like what is on the picture I took. With all the politician, celebrities and other influential people going there to pray the Novena or hear Mass, even announcing it to the world that they go there, I can’t help but wonder why the vicinity of Baclaran Church is in such a sad state. I am hoping that it is not because they ride in fancy vehicles to get inside that they feel there is no need for them to use their influence for a good cause. By the way photo was taken not after any storm or heavy rains which left people lining up to go in or out of the church.
